BJ’s Wholesale Club Inc. or commonly known as BJ’s is a membership only chain of warehouse club on the United States East Cost and in the state of Ohio. It started in 1984 by Zayre which is a chain of discount department stores on the Malden border in Massachusetts. This was and is still the flagship store of the company. When Zayre sold its nameplate to competing discount chain Ames, TJX Companies was made. It spun off its warehouse division that consist BJ’s and the defunct HomeClub to create Waban Inc. The letters B and J stands for the name of one of the daughters of the founders, Beverly Jean and it should not be confused with Berkeley & Jensen which is a brand name they sold in their stores.
